How the math works
The calculator, plainly
Where does this estimate come from?
We use the published rules for the federal ECCA credit and each participating state’s SGO program — credit rate, donor cap, filing-status modifiers. Numbers update as legislatures revise their programs.
Can I redirect under both federal and state credits on the same gift?
Yes, in most cases. The federal ECCA credit stacks on top of any state credit your gift earns. The calculator shows the stack automatically when both apply.
Is the credit refundable?
Federal ECCA is non-refundable but carries forward up to five years. State refundability rules vary — the calculator notes which states allow carry-forward.
Should I talk to my CPA first?
Yes. This calculator is an estimate. Your actual credit depends on total liability, deductions, and AGI. We have a one-page packet your CPA can use — request it on the Donors page.
